Committed to Houghton: Welcoming Two New Additions to our Expanding Team

Houghton have honed our focus on our client base and we are continuing to deliver exceptional service and products with the addition of two new staff members to the account management team. We welcomed Nigel Walker, Strategic Account Manager, and Richard Davidson, Key Account Manager, to the Houghton team recently and we’re thrilled to have them joining us at this exciting time in our history.

Our marketing team caught up with them to find out a bit more about the men behind the titles.

Welcome to the Houghton family Nigel and Richard, it’s a pleasure to have you joining us. Could you tell us a bit about yourselves first?

Richard and his wife of 25 years, Lisa

Nigel: Sure, my name’s Nigel Walker. My wife Susan and I recently celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary, and we have two children together, Mitchel and Sophie. My son Mitchel is captain of our local Under 21’s football team, and I’m the manager of the team too – we’re currently doing very well in the Sheffield Meadowhall league. When I get the chance, I love to travel – particularly I like visiting America, and Spain is a top choice for me too.

Richard: My name’s Richard Davidson, I’m 46, and I’ve been with my wife Lisa for 25 years, married to her for 18 of those. I have two children also, my son Joel, 20, and my daughter Mia, 16. I also really enjoy football and have played and coached at a local level, and I’m a season ticket holder at my local club Grimsby Town FC. I also enjoy running and playing golf – although not very well!

Could you tell us about your industry experience so far, and what you’re bringing to Houghton?

Nigel: I’ve over 20 years of experience working in the lubricants industry, and I’m trained to a high mechanical engineering standard on top of that. I’m a very driven person and I have a positive outlook – I love the challenge of winning new business as well as understanding the importance of maintaining our current business portfolio.

The Customer Solutions Centre in Manchester is Houghton’s UK headquarters, and the base of many team members.

Richard: I was previously with Cromwell Industrial Supplies for 26 years. I started as a store trade counter assistant and worked my way through the organisation up into management positions including sales, business and key accounts. I have a huge knowledge base when it comes to the industry and this is definitely one of my biggest strengths that I’m bringing to Houghton.

Obviously we’re delighted to have you joining Houghton, but what attracted you to us in the first place?

Nigel: Houghton are the UK leader in production fluids and supply all the major business sectors from aerospace, nuclear and automotive markets to name a few, with a broad range of products to satisfy market needs. It provides me with a great opportunity to use my existing skills to my full extent as well as look at developing new ones.

Richard: Houghton have a fantastic reputation in the engineering sector and have over 150 years’ experience in the industry. When I decided to leave Cromwell, Houghton was the company I wanted to work for. Being so well known it’s a great honour to join a company like this and have the chance to make a difference to their business.

Are there any opportunities or challenges you’re particularly looking forward to tackling in your new role?

Nigel: I’m looking forward to opportunities to help grow the business as whole, as well as achieve all business targets and deliver the very best in customer satisfaction and outcome. Houghton have been wanting to grow new business extensively for some time but haven’t had the capacity to – I’m looking to change that. I’m also looking forward to supporting them with any future developments.

Richard: I am always wanting to learn more and build my skills, and Houghton are providing me with the perfect platform to help develop and strengthen my knowledge of MWF’s (metal working fluids) and equipment related to the industry. There are many challenges that I enjoy, including retention of current business, development of new business, as well as hitting and exceeding financial targets. There is nothing as fulfilling as building relationships, creating opportunities, and winning new business.
